“So many of these films are about big explosions and
carnage” explains matt, “and we do touch on that, but what
happens after the explosions, after the dust settles? How do
people live? If something like this really did happen then what
would be the experience for most of us? We would be cut off,
very suddenly. News broadcasts and media communication would
stop. We would be isolated. So many films focus on the global
effects of disaster; I wanted to make a film that was personal,
that showed the results of powerlessness on individuals.
“This is where Powerless starts; it focuses on just one family
and their personal experience of survival. Cut off from the rest
of the world, living in a remote farmhouse, they are alone. They
have to pool their resources; they have to draw on strengths and
abilities that most of us never even think about in our daily
lives. This is where the real story is.” |
